Job Description

Buyer, Motion & Upholstery



Develop business strategies and assortment plans within the stationary and motion upholstery categories that support the Star brand and company objectives. Identify opportunities and recommend new products and merchandising concepts that maximize sales and profits.



Reports To: VP of Merchandising



Essential Functions:




•         Develop assortment recommendations and core product mix for a growing upholstery department



•         Perform market analysis, competitive shop and analyze sales trends to keep abreast of current trends. Obtain feedback from stores to improve product and add to collections



•         Identify emerging trends. Develop business strategies outlining strengths, weaknesses, new opportunities and threats



•         Responsible for purchase orders/quantities, delivery dates, flow and exit strategies for initial cost and production negotiations for new programs



•         Maintain relationships, resolve issues and conduct negotiations with supplies and agents as necessary (domestic and overseas)



•         Recommend and collaborate with Visual to plan floor layouts



•         Inventory Management – recommend adjustments (markdowns, delivery changes and quantity changes) to the plan to maximize sales, profits, budget (OTB) and to protect the brand



•         Investigate and respond to field issues. Coordinate communication strategies with Store Operations. Provide appropriate merchandising information for Store Newsletters



•         Manage information across functions working closely with Retail Stores, Visual Merchandising, Quality Control, Marketing, and Management



•         Visit stores and contact field management to gather information on customer feedback and product issues



•         Provide information to Visual on in-store promotion strategies and placement of markdown goods



•         Recommend effective processes and procedures to improve workflow and results



•         Present product information (inspirations and facts) to field



•         Work with web team to ensure all products within the motion category are correctly represented on the website

Work Environment:



This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, tablets and other office equipment.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work:



This is position and hours of work would routinely be 40+ hours per week.  Given the nature of the position, there will be occasions that extra hours and travel may be required.

Education, training, and experience:



Requirements:




•         5+ years of experience in Upholstery Buying/Merchandising is required



•         Bachelor’s Degree is required, Degree in Interior Design, Merchandising, or related field is highly preferred



•         Knowledge of company sales system



•         Ability to communicate and write in English



•         Ability to operate computer to enter sales and follow-up



•         Ability to work the assigned schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays


 


Qualifications:




•         Retail experience is highly preferred



•         Must possess strong time management skills with the ability to focus and manage multiple projects with shifting priorities



•         Must possess strong problem solving and analytical skills



•         Must possess strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills



•         Some travel required
