Job Description

Assistant Manager

The Assistant Manager works in collaboration with the Store Manager to execute on the store’s business plan and to achieve performance goals. This position plays an integral role in maintaining focus in meeting sales goals and leading an engaged customer-centric store team.

Reports To: General Manager/Store Manager

Essential Functions

●  Supports the team in driving store sales and meeting store KPI’s.

●  Collaborates with the Store Manager in analyzing results, identifying opportunities, and making decisions to drive sales and successful initiatives for the store.

●  Empowers the store management team to effectively lead the day‐to‐day operations of the store including guest experience, associate engagement, merchandising and operational excellence. 

●  Supports the implementation of product placement, marketing and promotional strategies.

●  Fosters a healthy and productive environment where employees can maximize their potential.

●  Knows the competition and market trends to positively impact business

●  Promptly resolves any customer issues in the store.

●  Supports the Sales Managers in overseeing the sales floor by following MOD, Manager On Duty, guidelines

●  Prepares and leads daily store meetings to set sales team up for success.

●  Ensures the store schedule follows Star’s Scheduling Guidelines.

●  Works at least 45 hours per week or as business requires.

●  May oversee store operations in the absence of an operations manager.

●  Responsible for the implementation and execution of all store initiatives.

●  Maintains professional appearance and follows company’s dress code

●  Adheres to all Star Policies and Procedures.

●  Demonstrates the Company’s Core Values and supports the Growth Strategy in the performance of all job functions.


●  Actively recruits for all store positions

●  Approves the hiring of all sales associates by conducting required interviews

●  Ensures store meets company’s Retention Rate.

●  Follows hiring process by ensuring all candidates are properly interviewed.

●  Ensures new hires attend New Hire Training and are properly onboarded.

●  Hires the most qualified candidate for the store.

●  Recruits, hires, onboards, and leads sales managers and associates.

●  Ensures store meets company’s Retention Rate.


●  Trains and develops Sales Managers

●  Provide coaching and feedback on consistently to all Associates

●  Attends monthly Store Manager meetings and trainings.

●  Conducts high energy and motivating daily, weekly, and monthly coaching with all Associates.

●  Conducts weekly/monthly one-on-one meetings with the Sales Manager.

●  Conducts MBWAs, Managing by Walking Around, and provides training routinely while acting as MOD, Manager on Duty.

●  Provides additional training to underperformers.

●  Responsible for his/her own personal development.


●  Holds team accountable to all Star standards of performance.

●  Addresses any performance issues following Star’s Disciplinary Process.

●  Addresses any company policy violations in a timely manner.


●  Supports the execution of any merchandising initiative (floor moves, new product placement, etc.)

●  Maintains the integrity of the showroom.

●  Performs AM walk-throughs before opening the store to ensure store is Grand Opening Ready.

●  Performs PM walk-throughs at the end of the night to ensure store is left Grand Opening Ready.

●  Establishes and manages associates assigned areas of responsibility or zones.



Job Requirements


●  Preferably 3 years of experience in retail management with a track record of meeting sales goals and developing teams.

●  Experience leading big teams.

●  College degree preferred or equivalent experience

●  Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business, including holiday, evening, overnight and weekend shifts

Supervisory Responsibility: Supervises Sales Managers and all Store Associates.

Work Environment:

This position operates in a retail showroom environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, tablets and other office equipment.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may stand and/or walk up to 6-7 hours in an 8-hour work day.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work:

This is position and hours of work would routinely be 173 hours per month as a part of standard retail schedule to include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Given the nature of the position, there may be occasions that extra hours and travel may be required.
